Online Data Journalism Mini-Bootcamp (June 15-16, 2020)

IRE is taking its trusted data journalism training online during the coronavirus pandemic. In this online mini-bootcamp, attendees will get a crash course in using spreadsheets to find stories, using Tableau to publish data visualizations, and other critical skills such as finding, gathering and cleaning data. Using real-world datasets and examples, the IRE training team will help attendees learn the technical steps to work with datasets, along with the analytical skills needed to find and bulletproof data-driven stories.
No previous data experience is necessary to join this virtual bootcamp. After registration, attendees will receive instructions on setting up their computers with necessary software, and information on accessing the course materials and live videos. Sessions will be taught through Zoom.
*Two days of live instruction from the IRE training team, including video demonstrations, hands-on activities, and small-group workshops
*Support to set up their home computers for data work
*Open lab time to work on personal projects with one-on-one guidance from the trainers
*Ongoing access to all videos recorded during the bootcamp, plus additional training videos and materials
*An e-book filled with step-by-step instructions on using spreadsheets and Tableau
*Practice datasets to continue learning
The workshop is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (CT) and end at 5 p.m. (CT) June 15 and June 16. An optional open lab will be held each day from 5:15-7:15 p.m. (CT). A tentative schedule with additional details can be found here.
Bootcamp Registration Cost
$250 (Attendees must be a current IRE member. IRE membership is $70 for professionals and $25 for students. Attendees must meet IRE membership terms)

All cancellations must be sent via email to [email protected] There is a $75 processing fee for cancellations until the Wednesday prior to the event. Refunds will not be given for cancellations after this day.
