Speaker Bios

  • Sara Catania teaches journalism at the University of Southern California, serves on the program committee for the JSK Journalism Fellowship, where she was a fellow, and supports the Online News Association Women's Leadership Accelerator as a mentor and advisor. Her journalism experience includes digital leader and newsroom manager, grounded in years of reporting and writing at a wide range of news outlets including the Los Angeles Times, Reuters, Mother Jones, the LA Weekly and NBC. She is the author of a forthcoming memoir about growing up in Bronzeville on Chicago's South Side. @Catanify

  • Lee Ferran is the Editor of the Brian Ross Investigative Unit's website and a national security reporter within the unit at ABC News. He joined in the Investigative Unit in 2011 after working with "Good Morning America." He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2008. @leeferran

  • Joel Grover is the investigative reporter for NBC4 Los Angeles. He has won nearly every major award for investigative reporting, including the Peabody, the DuPont-Columbia, numerous Emmys, six National Edward R. Murrow Awards, and two IRE Medals. He is nationally known for his undercover investigations, which have resulted in millions of dollars in refunds to consumers, changed laws, and sent people to prison.

  • Russ Walker is assistant news director at KING 5 News in Seattle, where he also serves as executive producer for the station's award-winning investigative unit. He supervises two full-time reporters -- Susannah Frame and Chris Ingalls -- and one photojournalist, Steve Douglas. Walker joined KING in 2011 after spending most of his journalism career working for online news publications, including Politico.com and washingtonpost.com. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University.
