    New York, New York

    POSTPONED: 2020 R Bootcamp - New York

**Given the ongoing concerns about the spread of coronavirus, IRE has decided to postpone the bootcamp scheduled for April 27-29 in New York.

Registration fees will be refunded in the next few days. IRE memberships associated with bootcamp registrations have been activated. Please be sure to take advantage of exclusive member benefits.

    Hosted by: NBC Universal

IRE and NBC Universal are offering a special hands-on workshop April 27-29. We will introduce you to R, a free, powerful open-source programming language, that will add statistical heft to your reporting. By the end of this two-and-a-half-day bootcamp, you will learn how to import, clean, analyze and even visualize your data.

Some important things that you should be able to do upon your return to the newsroom:

    • You’ll know how to use RStudio and how to quickly analyze and clean data without ever having to open it in Excel.
    • Create an R Script that you can use to import and analyze data and then share it with others in your newsroom.
    • Design graphics that can be styled (within RStudio or later using Adobe Illustrator) for use in static graphics online and in print.

You can feel confident enough to sign up for this boot camp if you have never used R before, though you should have a basic understanding of data analysis concepts.

Important note: You’ll need to bring your own laptop with R and RStudio pre-installed. You’ll need R first. Download it for your specific operating system here. Once you have R installed, you can install the software RStudio here. Both are free, open source and available for Mac and Windows.

Workshop date/times: The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 27 and end at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. Please enter the building on the Sixth Avenue side, ground floor near the gift shop.

Additional details, including pricing and workshop registration, can be found here.
