Can't attend the 2024 IRE Conference in person? Virtually join IRE Executive Director Diana Fuentes and IRE Board President Brian Rosenthal to attend the annual IRE membership meeting at 5:30 p.m. EDT. Following the membership meeting, the results of the board of directors and contest committee elections will be announced.

IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP VOTE: Several changes to the Articles of Incorporation will be presented for a vote at the membership meeting. The amendments aim to open IRE membership to more people who work in journalism-related fields and give young journalists greater flexibility as they start their careers. Only eligible professional, academic, retiree and student members may vote, so make sure your membership is current through July 1, 2024. If you cannot be present at the meeting in person, eligible members may attend and vote via Zoom by registering here.

Ticket Price

  • Free for current IRE members. You must still go through the ticketing/registration process so Zoom info can be sent prior to the meeting. Members must register before the beginning of the membership meeting; tickets will be available until 5:30 p.m. PDT, Saturday, June 22.

Location

The membership meeting will be held at the 2024 IRE Conference in Anaheim, Calif. Members not in attendance will be able to join the meeting virtually, via Zoom. Registered members will receive login information two hours before the meeting begins.

Diana Fuentes, Executive Director, IRE
Diana is a second-generation Texan who grew up on the Texas-Mexico border. She is an award-winning journalist with more than 35 years' experience, from copy editor and cops reporter to executive editor and publisher. She serves on Headliners Foundation of Texas Board of Governors, was past president of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and served on national board of National Association of Hispanic Journalists, among other activities.

Amy Eaton, Director of Member Services, IRE
Amy handles membership services and registration for IRE. She has worked at IRE since 1999.

Josh Hinkle, Vice President of IRE's Board of Directors, KXAN-Austin
Josh Hinkle is KXAN’s director of investigations and innovation, leading the station’s duPont and IRE Award-winning investigative team on multiple platforms. He also leads KXAN’s political coverage as executive producer and host of “State of Texas,” a weekly statewide program focused on the Texas Legislature and elections. In 2021, he was elected to the IRE Board of Directors and currently serves as its vice president. He also is chair of the board's Member Services Committee.

Immigration finds itself as an area of coverage that experiences a push and pull effect when it comes to a heightened focus by newsrooms and greater society at large. It's a complex and emotional issue and we'll talk about how to better cover the topic and avoid tropes and disinformation in your reporting and framing.

AccessFest is IRE’s annual virtual-by-design conference. The two-and-a-half-day event will take place online, October 17-19, 2024.

AccessFest focuses on expanding IRE’s efforts to provide more accessible training centered on belonging, equity, and inclusion in the newsroom and through better news coverage of inequities in the communities journalists serve.

Couldn't make it to NICAR or IRE this year? The conference also features the best data classes and more traditional investigative reporting sessions from the in-person conferences this past year.


Registration Fees

You must be an IRE member through November 1 to attend the conference.

Professional, Academic, Associate, Retiree (you must be logged into your IRE account before trying to buy a ticket).

  • Early bird: $149 ends on September 16, 2024, at midnight (ET)
  • Regular: $199

A discount rate of $100 is available for those who are independent journalists or who would otherwise not be able to attend due to financial constraints.

Student

  • Flat-rate: $50

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be sent via email to logistics@ire.org. All cancellations must be in writing. There is a $50 processing fee for all cancellations until September 30. After that date, requests for refunds will be considered case by case. Membership fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. 


Recording Notice

All IRE events are subject to being photographed, video/audio-recorded, screen captured and/or live-streamed. Attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors may be captured via these formats. All conference sessions, materials and activities are subject to recording by IRE and may be reproduced in part or whole, and distributed or used in any way consistent with IRE’s mission.
