Leaked documents, weighing risks and funding investigative journalism highlight conference schedule

More than 250 journalists, lawyers, information specialists and other experts will discuss investigative journalism techniques, ethics and more at the 2011 IRE Conference in Orlando.

The evolution in the relationship between journalists and sources who leak documents will be explored in a showcase panel including New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller, Jan-Michael Ihl of the newly formed OpenLeaks, Lucy Dalglish of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and more.

The question of when the risk outweighs the story — and how to make that call — will be the focus of a showcase session featuring David Rohde of The New York Times and others who have had to make those tough decisions and dealt with the consequences.

Showcase Panels at the conference include:
Securing the future of nonprofit investigative journalism

Clark Bell, McCormick Foundation
Sue Hale, Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation

Beyond Wikileaks: How technology is changing the relationship between journalists and sources

Lucy Dalglish, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
Leonard Downie, Jr., The Washington Post/Arizona State University
Jan-Michael Ihl, OpenLeaks
