Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism is seeking an Associate Dean, Career Services. Reporting to senior leadership, the Associate Dean will be responsible for management of all aspects of the Office of Career Services. This person will be responsible for directing a career services function that reflects the strategic goals laid out by the Dean(s) of Columbia’s Journalism School, as well as in response to curricular priorities, diversity efforts and industry trends.
The Associate Dean, Career Services, will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan for an organized interface between employers and students, including in-person and virtual meetings. Manages all aspects of our annual Career Expo. Arranges student-group meetings with news organizations throughout the academic year and matches individual outstanding students with selected employers.
This person counsels students on career planning and opportunities, critiques student cover letters and resumes, and may also assist with job-application preparation.
In this role, tracks journalism hiring trends and maintains contacts throughout industry.
A bachelor’s degree is required, as well as a minimum of 7 years’ related experience. Demonstrable journalism networking abilities required. Additional experience in recruiting, personnel assessment and career development strongly preferred.
