Job Summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy seek a creative and enthusiastic Engagement Editor to join our growing editorial audience team, which is focused on expanding the reach and deepening the impact of our journalism, our digital products, and our subscription business.

The right candidate will play a key role in developing and executing our digital audience strategy. We need you to help us bring in new readers, build loyalty among current ones, and create value for subscribers.

What you’ll do:

• You’ll play an integral role in identifying audience segments and finding ways to engage them.
• You’ll advise and execute The Chronicle’s social-media strategy, expanding our reach and increasing engagement among our readers.
• You’ll provide insight and guidance to reporters and editors in both newsrooms on how our work can resonate with our digital audiences and how to deepen our relationships with them. You’ll also identify opportunities for coverage of breaking and trending stories and advise the newsrooms on headlines and story formats that resonate on social media.
• And you’ll do all of this while championing our standards for accuracy, fairness, and best-in-class authority on higher education.

Who you are:

• You have two or more years of experience in an audience-engagement role, preferably for a news publisher.
• You have demonstrated experience running social-media accounts and growing audience for a news publisher, using metrics to inform decisions.
• You have sound news judgment and are a clear, creative and effective communicator.
• You’re a natural collaborator who’s comfortable taking part in conversations across departments, with editorial and business colleagues.
• You’re a creative thinker who is enthusiastic about the future of journalism and the possibilities associated with an evolving media landscape.
• You have some knowledge of issues in the higher-education and/or social sectors, or you’re excited to learn them quickly.
