NBC News Digital is hiring a reporter for its Enterprise team to investigate an influential company, industry or institution, or a political or business leader in the United States. This will be a one-year staff position beginning in the summer or early fall of 2022.
This reporter will break news on their chosen target, producing a series of accountability-driven stories over the course of the year that uncover significant new information with the potential to bring about change. We are particularly interested in topics that can be investigated with an economic equity and/or racial equity lens. We want pitches on powerful companies that report soaring profits while exploiting workers. We want to hold accountable businesses that charge exorbitant prices for everyday necessities. We want to take on politicians who abuse their power or put personal profit above the interests of the people they represent. We are open to ambitious reporting on other topics, too, provided that they have an accountability angle.
This reporter will produce 6-8 investigative stories over the course of the year on their chosen topic, as well as shorter-term scoops, follow-ups and solutions stories. Some of this work may involve a more immediate response to breaking news.
This is a full-time position as a Staff With End Date (SWED) with a 12-month assignment. This position is represented by the NY News Guild - CWA.
To apply, please include a one-paragraph pitch in your cover letter outlining what you’d like to investigate, what you hope to prove and the impact you think your stories could have.
