Investigative Reporter

Job Summary

The Dallas Morning News is seeking an accomplished investigative reporter with a passion for holding public officials accountable and exposing injustice.

We’re looking for someone who strives to tell original, compelling and ambitious stories and has demonstrated experience with landing investigations that prompt change in the community.

You must be savvy about finding and obtaining data and documents, adept at building sources and have a passion for telling stories about real people. An understanding of how to obtain and analyze data is preferred but not required.

The ideal candidate has a track record of demonstrating leadership on stories but also thrives on working collaboratively with other team members and across the newsroom. An interest in thinking outside the box and finding innovative ways to tell our stories in writing and visually is also important.

In this position, you will have the freedom to explore short, mid and long-term projects that are not limited to any one particular subject matter.

Investigative reporting is at the core of our mission at The Dallas Morning News, which is a digitally focused newsroom and the winner of nine Pulitzer Prizes. In 2017, we moved into a newly renovated building in the heart of downtown Dallas. Its flagship website,, attracts 8-10 million unique visitors a month.

Other requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years of news experience.
  • Strong communication skills and collaboration experience.
  • Exposure to a deadline-driven environment.

  • B.A./B.S. degree
  • 3 years of journalism experience
  • Experience in an investigative position
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stories at the same time
  • Demonstrated skills for reporting deeply and writing with authority
