Professor of Data Journalism (open track and rank)
Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism (www.journalism.columbia.edu) invites applications for the faculty position of the John S. and James L. Knight Professor of Journalism (track and rank to be determined), specializing in data journalism.
Candidates should be pioneers and leaders who are able to demonstrate scholarly and/or professional accomplishments worthy of appointment to a faculty position. They should have demonstrated experience with quantitative reporting, including but not limited to methods in data collection, analysis and visualization. Experience as a writer and editor is also welcomed.
As a full-time member of our faculty, the successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with the Journalism School’s Dean, the Dean of Academic Affairs and faculty to ensure the development of an enhanced curriculum in data journalism. The Knight Chair will serve as director of the data journalism program and, in that capacity, teach data journalism courses, work on curriculum and syllabi, explore the best methods of reporting and journalistic presentation, supervise master’s projects and theses and advise students.

A degree in a computational field, such as computer science or statistics, is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
