Reuters is looking for an editor to lead our coverage of race and social justice. This is a global role of huge importance. The successful candidate will run a small group of dedicated reporters covering race, identity and social justice, producing stories and diverse perspectives across the entire news file – from politics and society to economics and financial markets.
As Race and Justice Editor, you will build a distinctive body of work on specific issues of public interest. You will also provide thought leadership for the rest of the newsroom, participating daily in global and regional news discussions to ensure our coverage encompasses a range of perspectives and we pursue important untold stories. Along with other newsroom leaders, you will be tasked to produce measurable increases in the number of stories that speak to diverse communities and in the diversity of voices and faces we use to tell stories across the file. You will have a global mindset.
Though developments in U.S. public policy on race and social justice will be an important focus, you will maintain a global perspective on the news, collaborating with journalists in Reuters’ bureaus across the world. You will also play a role, along with other senior editors, in supporting Reuters editorial conferences and in the training and mentoring of other journalists.
The role will be based in Washington or London or Paris and report to the Global Managing Editor for Politics, Economics and World News (Newsgathering).
You will have a good understanding of the beat and experience covering and coordinating global stories. You will be able to oversee both breaking news and longer-term investigations, and to explain complex topics and nuances to readers around the world.
