Job Summary

The New Bedford Light, a nonprofit digital news startup (, is seeking an experienced reporter with demonstrated investigative expertise, strong analytical skills and a knack for vivid storytelling to join our small and growing team of public service journalists.

New Bedford, a small and rapidly changing city on the South Coast of Massachusetts, is the nation’s most valuable fishing port. It is also poised to become the epicenter of the nation’s emerging wind industry. Our reporters must be versatile and flexible, eager to dig into the most important issues facing our community -- health, jobs, education, immigration, housing, the arts and city government.

We are not a breaking news site; we emphasize in-depth stories that provide context and insight. Our team is collaborative and creative. We need general assignment reporters who can quickly tackle complex subjects, find the sharpest angles and explicate them with impeccable accuracy. As our newsroom expands, we will develop beats requiring specific expertise and deep sources.

We offer competitive salary, benefits and an opportunity to help lead a new and ambitious news organization. Successful candidates will have a taste for invention and adventure. Multimedia experience is a plus. BIPOC encouraged.
