Description

It has never been more important for journalists to write carefully and thoughtfully, especially when writing about underrepresented groups. Harmful language like "chain migration," "suffering from" a disease or using improper pronouns can perpetuate stereotypes, cause pain to people in those groups, and cause mistrust of the media. In this session, you'll hear from journalists who are advocating for cultural competencies that can help avoid harmful, misleading and inappropriate words.

The Exposing Systemic Inequities Track is sponsored by CNN.
