Description

The Winston-Salem Journal series illustrates how politicians in the state used their influence to override objections to build a nutrition research center at a local hospital; the hospital had little expertise in nutrition research. Objections raised by officials at the US Department of Agriculture were ignored by then Secretary of Agriculture, Clayton Yeutter, who at the behest of Jesse Helms, took critical steps to free up federal money for the project, Jan. 9 - 10, 1994.
