Description

Employers argue that in today's increasingly competitive economy, they have a right to choose the workers who best fit the job, and in order to make informed choices, they need information that can only be acquired through such procedures as background checks, credit checks, and drug tests. Once workers have been hired, the argument goes, monitoring is then essential to maintain and often improve productivity. Across the Board examines this issue. (March 1996)
