The Progressive investigates life behind prison walls for women transferred to male correctional facilities because of overcrowding. Once inside male correctional facilities, guards and other inmates often sexually harass or rape female inmates. Prison officials rarely pay attention to the females' complaints and officials attempt to keep female prisoners from the press. (July 1996)
