Description

A Los Angeles Times investigation into the FDA's new partnership with the pharmaceutical industry reveals that the FDA has ignored blunt warnings from its own scientists and sided with drug companies chasing profits when it approves drugs. The Times found that since 1993 the FDA approved seven non-essential drugs that industry experts thought would potential blockbusters despite reservations by FDA employees. The Times links those seven drugs -- which have since been withdrawn -- with over 1000 deaths in the United States.
