Description

The Times investigative series takes a look inside the rampant use of plea bargaining by people in the Lake County Prosecutor's office in drug cases. Indiana law saws that "dealing in just 3 grams of pure or adulterated cocaine" and showing intent to deliver results in a Class A felony, punishable with a 20 year minimum term. But reporters found that in cases where the defendant had as much as 400 grams had been converted to a Class D felony, which could be made into a Class A misdemeanor that comes with an up to one year sentence.
