IRE condemns DOJ subpoenas of New York Times journalists

Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) condemns the recent Department of Justice action to subpoena New York Times journalists following their reporting on security concerns surrounding President Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One.

IRE stands in solidarity with the New York Times and its reporting team, and calls on the Trump Administration to withdraw the subpoenas–some of which were delivered by federal agents to reporters’ homes.

This action appears designed to instill fear in journalists and stifle the public’s right to know. This is the latest in a series of escalating attacks on the press by the Trump administration

IRE is the nation’s largest journalism membership organization and stands in firm opposition to any tactics designed to intimidate a free press or otherwise diminish freedoms protected under the First Amendment.
