IRE hosted a star-studded 50th Anniversary Gala in New York City this week, bringing together the industry’s biggest trailblazers and raising more than $1.5 million. This is the largest amount raised through a single event in IRE history.
“We are grateful for the generosity of everyone who donated,” said IRE Executive Director Diana Fuentes. “With the help of all involved, we are looking forward to the next 50 years of training and supporting journalists at all levels to ensure a free press, the foundation of democracy.”

Looking for ways to be more inclusive in your news coverage or hiring practices? IRE has custom training options to help.
In addition to general DBEI training, we also offer deeper-dive sessions on specific topics, such as: how to cover historically marginalized groups, and how to cover the queer and trans community.
Applications are still open for IRE's Freelance Fellowship.
These fellowships are awarded to help independent journalists pursue investigative projects with impact, breadth and significance. Proposals for all types of media, including long-form projects like books and documentaries, are eligible. Cash awards range from $2,000 to $4,000.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 29.
