Welcome to IRE!
Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of investigative reporting. IRE was formed to create a forum in which journalists throughout the world could help each other by sharing story ideas, newsgathering techniques and news sources.
IRE provides members access to thousands of reporting tipsheets and other materials through its Resource Center and hosts conferences and specialized training across the country. Programs of IRE include the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR), a collaboration between IRE and the Missouri School of Journalism.

IRE Board of Directors Meeting
The IRE Board of Directors will meet from 9:00am - 11:00am CST on February 13, 2026. Please find the agenda for the meeting here. The meeting is open to all current IRE members. Members must register for the meeting. All those registered will receive an email with the Zoom info to access the meeting. Watch your email one day in advance. Investigative Reporters and Editors’ 13-member Board of Directors elected new officers for 2024-2025 on June 27, 2024.
IRE Board of Directors and Contest Committee election results, along with voting on amendments to the IRE Articles of Incorporation, were announced at the 2024 IRE Conference in Anaheim.
IRE has awarded the 2024 Don Bolles Medal to the Marion County Record for remaining steadfast and refusing to be silenced after police raided the Marion, Kansas, newsroom and the home of its publisher in August 2023.
