Dominic James died while in the custody of the state of Missouri. At first, reporters could gain little information from the DFS, the state department that was supposed to be in charge of Dominic's welfare. But as reporting continued, more and more untruths by DFS employees were unearthed, and the story of how the state had fatally placed Dominic into the hands of an abusive foster father was told.
