Sacrificed to Shale
A small town, Dish, TX, which is surrounded by gas well compressor stations and wells. Recently, there was an air study done, which revealed several poisons being released by the gas wells well above EPA regulations. Further, these chemicals in the air “were discovered to possibly be responsible for animals and trees dying in the area”.

The New War

Bullies with Badges
Johson County, TX has had allegations of prisoner abuse, and the Fort Worth Weekly discovered that the county sheriff admitted to abuse happening in the prisons. It was found that one police force in Johnson County has been arresting about 10 percent of the population annually, leading to the near full prison.

Broken Bench
This series described the long record of injustices in New York's town and village courts that dates from the Colonial era. These courts are not financed by the state; because all their funding comes from towns and villages, they are starved for resources. The lack of state supervision paved the way for racism, favoritism and sexism to thrive in the courts.

System Error
The Sun used a FOIA request to obtain a declassified version of a 2003 NSA report on Trailblazer, the program designed to "fix the holes" in NSA's information filter. In the report the agency's inspector general found "'inadequate management and oversight' of private contractors and overpayment for the work done." A govenment official told The Sun, "The government has been standing by while the agency has been gradually 'going deaf' as unimportant communications drown out key pieces of information."
