An Educated Guest: Parents purchase homes for kids at college to save on costly campus housing
Many college students and their parents are saving money on room and board. To do this, they are buying off-campus houses and condos for the students to live in. Many might think this is more expensive, but the answer is it's less expensive than on-campus housing. It is less expensive because after buying these houses and condos, they can sell them and receive a profit off the sale instead of wasting money and never receiving a return.

Investigating Campus Crime
Students and parents are led to believe that NYU campus crime is far safer than it appears because of the difficulty of interpreting the crime reports. Nearly 97 percent of drug cases never reached the Public Safety department, and in seven years the department had never responded to incidents involving alcohol.

How Safe is Penn? Depends on Who's Tallying Crimes
The Philadelphia Inquirer investigates crime statistics at the University of Pennsylvania since the passage of the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990. The act requires universities to compile, publish and distribute annual statistics about crimes that have occurred on their campuses. The Inquirer's story reveals a loophole that allowed Penn to discount more than 90 percent of the armed robberies that occurred in its patrol area by defining them as "off-campus" crimes.
