IRE and CAR conferences

Every year, over 1,000 investigative journalists meet for a few days to learn how to do their jobs better. These national and regional conferences are packed with panels, workshops and roundtables covering the latest developments in the field of investigative reporting. The conferences have become known for the practical tips and story ideas shared by prize-winning members in quick-hit sessions.

Sessions range from hands-on computer training to panels on more traditional shoe-leather techniques. Demo rooms allow broadcasters to view video clips by other members. Tipsheets and story clips are freely shared.

Join the discussion about how to practice investigative journalism in print, broadcast, Web and alternative newsroom models.

Past conferences

IRE and NICAR have had the pleasure of being hosted across the country during the many annual conferences held since 1976. See past locations. For a glimpse at what we do, watch this audio slideshow from the 2007 IRE Conference in Phoenix. It featured a tribute to the Arizona Project, a defining event for IRE, sparked by the murder of investigative reporter Don Bolles.
