Housing reporter

Job Summary

The Frontier is a nonprofit dedicated to in-depth and investigative reporting in Oklahoma. We are hoping to hire reporters with at least a few years of professional experience but are also open to considering recent college graduates if they are a good fit for our newsroom.

We value passionate journalists who don’t follow the pack, ask tough, thoughtful questions and are motivated to do their best work. We provide the time and support to produce good journalism and opportunities for professional development. We also value work-life balance and offer some availability for remote work and flexible hours.

You will work with and learn from some of the best journalists in the state and may have opportunities to collaborate on projects with other local and national newsrooms. Journalists have gone on from our small newsroom to work at The Washington Post, ProPublica, The Marshall Project and The Daily Beast. Come grow with us.

This position will cover housing issues, homelessness and evictions in Oklahoma. We also want stories examining how people impacted by those issues interact with Oklahoma social services. Coverage will include some quicker-turn stories but we will also give the reporter the time and support to work on longer-term investigative and narrative-driven stories. This job is based in Oklahoma City.

Compensation: $50,000 to $58,000 a year, plus benefits.
