Description

Washingtonian reports that "Most everyone agrees that easing the way of the disabled into the mainstream of American life amounts to an ethical injunction. Compassion and empathy demand nothing less. The authors of ADA, however, made empathy irrelevant. Concern for the disabled is no longer an ethical injunction but a government mandate, and failure to meet it is punishable to the point of bankruptcy. When the ADA went into effect three years ago, so did the law of unintended consequences - the law most often ignored by Washington lawmakers - kicked in along with it. Already the anecdotes are rolling in.
