Three years ago George Smith rescued the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine (SAM) from bankruptcy, increased SAM's donations and tripled the organization's 4,500-name membership list. Today, Smith faces charges of financial mismanagement and conflicts of interest in a lawsuit filed by half of the former SAM board.
