Gavin Off has joined the Charlotte Observer as the database reporter. Off spent the previous three years as database editor at the Tulsa World.

WVUE Wins Murrow Award for Railroad Series

WVUE-TV won the the Edward R. Murrow Award in the Video Investigative Reporting-Small Market category for its series, "The Gravy Train," which showed improper spending and mismanagement at a New Orleans railroad. The team included Lee Zurik, Donny Pearce, Greg Phillips, and Mikel Schaefer.

Cheryl W. Thompson of the Post Wins Emmy

Cheryl W. Thompson of the Washington Post received an Emmy award from the National Capital Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for "A Cop Killer's Remorse." She shared the award with videographer Ben De La Cruz.

Tisha Thompson of WTTG Wins Emmy

Tisha Thompson of Fox 5 WTTG-TV won an Emmy from the National Capital Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her investigative report "Out of the Office." She shared the award with producer Mike Cephas.

Thomas Selected for Soros Fellowship

Chandra Thomas, formerly a reporter for the Kennesaw State University Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, was selected for a 2011 Soros Justice Media Fellowship.

Byrne Wins CA SPJ Award for Spot.us Series

Peter Byrne received a James Madison Freedom of Information Award from the Society of Professional Journalists Northern California chapter. The award recognized his series on University of California Regents approving university investments in deals where they had personal financial interests. The series was published on the website Spot.us.

Times of Northwest Indiana Wins Best of Indiana Awards

The SPJ’s Best of Indiana Journalism award for non-deadline reporting was presented to Marisa Kwiatkowski of the Times of Northwest Indiana. She shared the first place for business reporting award with colleague Marc Chase.

Sharon Walsh Named Editor of PublicSource.org

Sharon Walsh, enterprise editor of the Lexington Herald-Leader, was named editor of PublicSource.org, a new Pittsburgh-based investigative reporting website which expects to launch in August.
