Description

Heller casts a critical eye on the life of Mark Reynolds Hughes, the founder of weight-management and personal care products vendor Herbalife International. Hughes fueled his company's success by projecting a positive, healthy image, and by spreading a rags-to-riches tale of his childhood years. Heller casts doubt on both of these images. Hughes died in May, 2000 from a lethal combination of alcohol and an antidepressant. Before that, he had other problems with substance abuse, including a DWI charge. And the true story of his childhood life "was a lot more complex, and fit less neatly into an inspirational parable."
