The Bay Guardian analyzed the content of an entire week of local television news from four different stations. The investigation found that just two weeks before the November election, only 11 percent of total news time went to election coverage, and of those stories 60 percent concerned the presidential race. Only one of the four stations ran a story regarding a local or state race the entire week. The Bay Guardian also found that crime was the most common topic on all four stations, with murder being the subject of more than half of all crime stories. (March 6, November 13, 1996)
