Environment and Health Editor

Job Summary

California is often at the forefront of environmental and health policies. We want a leader for our reporting team who will help set the agenda on climate and health reporting. We’re looking for an editor who will bring rigor, precision, smart story judgement and intellectual depth to our award-winning coverage.
This editor must be collaborative and decisive. They need to know how to work well with their team of reporters but also with the room as environment and health can often be at the intersection of much of our work.

We are looking for someone who has:
*Experience leading teams that produce original accountability and explanatory journalism around healthcare and the environment.
*A track record of working well with others. We are a collaborative newsroom, both across our teams – audio, visual, data, product and impact – and with other news organizations.
*The creativity to think about a range of storytelling forms and reporting techniques, ability to elevate a story and think creatively about how to tell it. From underpinning stories with exclusive data analysis to using creative strategies to engage with readers and sources.
*A passion for urgent, high-stakes environment and healthcare stories that are central to public conversation.
*A home base in Los Angeles, California (preferred)

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000 per year; higher compensation may be available for someone with advanced skills and/or experience.
We offer a complete benefits package with medical, dental and vision insurance — we cover 95% of the cost for employees and dependents — from a range of HMO and PPO providers. We’ll match contributions of up to 2% of your salary to our 401(k) program and provide life insurance at no cost.
