Bilingual Investigative Researcher/Producer – Puerto Rico Doc (Part-Time)

Job Summary

Role: Bilingual Investigative Researcher/Producer (Part-time) — Puerto Rico Documentary
Term/Start: 6-week pilot, ~10–20 hrs/week; target start week of Sept 16, 2025 (flexible). Remote-friendly; PR-based or deep PR fluency preferred.
Comp: Lead track $1,200–$1,500/week (experience-based). Contributor track available for one topic at $30–$50/hr.

About the project: Disappearing Billions is a bold, satirical, and emotionally grounded investigation of how structural corruption, both local and federal, turned Puerto Rico into a case study in legalized dysfunction. Core topics: LUMA, FEMA housing aid, New Fortress Energy (with PROMESA/Act 60 as context). Tone: satirical, fact-anchored, filmable now.

Responsibilities

  • Compile 2–3 page research summaries per topic (what happened, key dates, who decided/signed, links to sources).
  • Build key-documents folders (contracts, filings, audits, dockets, news) labeled “This shows ___.”
  • People to interview (per topic): confirm 1 affected person (+1 backup) and 1 expert/organizer; prepare outreach (emails + 2–3 questions) to 2 decision-makers (not promised bookings); maintain a simple contact log.
  • Draft a simple shoot plan (public or accessible locations; easy scenes).
  • Provide a legal checklist (fact vs allegation, right-of-reply contacts, consents) — research support only.
  • Light original reporting: 5–10 short calls, 1–2 quick records pulls; brief right-of-reply emails.
  • Collaborate with the director and a junior researcher; a local fixer/field producer handles permits/travel/day-of logistics.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish; all deliverables and comms in English.
  • Demonstrated investigative research/reporting experience (public records, contracts, dockets).
  • Strong sourcing/pre-interview skills; ability to explain complex issues plainly.
  • Organized (Drive/Sheets), source-protection basics, editorial independence.
  • Preferred: PR-based or deep familiarity with Puerto Rico institutions; energy/FEMA/government contracting beat experience.
