In July 2018, a scandal broke that would rock college football and as well as much of North American sports. Zach Smith, an assistant football coach at Ohio State University, was charged with trespassing. When reporters began digging deeper, they learned that Smith had twice been investigated by police for physical, verbal and emotional abuse of his then-wife, Courtney Smith. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer had known about this and, not only did he not thoroughly discipline Smith, he later asked to give him a raise.
