Adam Schmidt, a former competitive figure skater, has alleged that he was sexually abused by once-celebrated figure skating coach Richard Callaghan in the years after U.S. Figure Skating, the sport’s national governing body, dismissed earlier misconduct allegations against the famed coach. Craig Maurizi, an Olympic hopeful turned Olympic coach who first accused Callaghan in 1999 of sexual abusing him when he was a young skater, says a pair of U.S. Figure Skating officials met with him during the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea as he was preparing to tell his story to the media and made him an offer he believes was intended to secure his silence.
