Our series of stories, exposing a serious flaw with the Veterans Crisis Line, made waves in Washington DC. We got the attention of two United States Senators, the FCC, and Department of Veterans Affairs. Using police and federal reports, we discovered that when minutes matter, first responders were sent to the wrong suicidal veteran in the wrong state. We fought all year to get the flaw fixed. By the end of the year, Congress took action with two pieces of legislation to fix the problem and improve the crisis line for our country’s veterans.
