Description

The COVID-19 pandemic in America hit first at Life Care Center of Kirkland, quickly showing the nation how
devastating the disease would be for nursing home residents. There was no reporting playbook for the staff of The
Seattle Times, the largest newspaper in the Pacific Northwest. As we raced to show the hard lessons from this nursing
home in a Seattle suburb, our staff had to quickly learn how to safely report in a pandemic, and then was forced to
learn how to run a 24-7 newsroom remotely as The Times became one of the first newspapers to fully send its staff
home.
