Insight examines the case of two teenagers who are members of the Tlingit tribe in Alaska, who violenty beat a delivery pizza man. The two boys pleaded guilty in state court and were sentenced to several years in prison. A member of their tribe offered the judge a deal in which the two would be released into the custody of the tribe which would punish the boys according to their laws. The tribal court decided to banish the two teenagers to two islands for 18 months where they had to survive on their own. The article ponders the idea of whether Native Americans and other cultral groups in the country should be able to punish their own. Oct. 24, 1994
