The Wall Street Journal reports that Johnson & Johnson's new "stent," a simple device that props clogged arteries open, is a hit but the cost is worrying hospitals. This device requires twice the hospital stay and costs significantly more than a similar, widely used procedure. The rush to use stents provokes controversy because approximately one million patients could be "stented" before any significant data on five-year results are available.
