Both the Hoy and El Siglo newspapers conducted investigations that found that "the government of the Dominican Republic notified Motorola, Inc. that a tax fraud involving more than ten million dollars in unpaid taxes and nearly one hundred million in unreported income, could result in the expropriation of Tricom, a telecommunications company partially owned by Motorola."
