This Tribune-Democrat story investigating the negligence in the maintanance of dams in the area, specifically regarding the 1977 failure of the Laurel Run Dam that killed 39 people. As a result of the story, the state announced a tougher stance to crack down on negligent dam owners and many have since complied.
