Description

Standards in Arizona's day care centers are so lax that the state ranks in the bottom third in the nation. An Arizona Republic computer-assisted study revealed that children have drowned, been beaten, neglected and abused in Arizona child care centers. The problem threatens to worsen with the Legislature's slashing of the budget of the state office that oversees day care and elimination of annual inspections of day-care providers. (April 7, 1996)
