Ronald O. Perelman began attending board meetings at his father's companies at age 11 and by age 52 he'd bought and sold 44 of his own companies finally creating, MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., a conglomerate of 60,000 employees. Today Perelman is worth somewhere around $5 billion, making him one of the wealthiest people in the United States. Business Week looks at Perelman's rise to power, expansion of his empire, and the legal troubles Perelman encountered along the way. (August 21, 1995)
