While American hospitals are supposed to be bastions of cleanliness where patients go to be cured, in reality, more people die each year from infections they receive after entering hospitals than die in homicides and auto accidents. Health Care magazine investigates hospital workers and their startlingly laxity about simple sterilization processes such as washing hands. (Nov./Dec. 1996)
