The Indianapolis Star investigates how Indiana special interest groups and their pushy, powerful lobbyists poured millions of dollars into lawmakers' campaigns, and won enormous influence over the 1995 session. Part-time lawmakers found they often could not avoid a conflict of private and public loyalties. At the same time, lawmakers who voted against lobbyists and special interests were punished for their independence. (Feb. 11-16, 1996)
