Description

This story focused on the life and death of Joey Busam, a retarded man who died of AIDS at age 44, and his family, who had once been staunch Catholics. The Busams, a prominent family in Cincinnati, sued the Catholic Church and the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, alleging that Joey was infected with the AIDS virus while in their care at the Good Shepherd home. The story examined the allegations and the horrible conditions at the Good Shepherd. From records and scores of interviews, the story documented a pervasive pattern of abuse at the home while under the control of the brothers. (March 11, 1996)
