Description

The Chicago Tribune investigates William Hogan Jr., the most powerful Teamster in Chicago, who built Local 714 into a family empire. As Chicago became a favorite location for Hollywood movies, Hogan's Teamsters became crucial to the new industry. Suddenly, members of the Hogan family controlled the movie equipment rental business in Chicago. When a Hogan Teamster needed to rent a truck for a film shoot he could go right to another Hogan to fill the bill. Despite its broad reach, this empire was virtually invisible before the Tribune story. (June 23, 1996)
