Description

Dean Reed, a Colorado-born singer, actor and political activist, found far more popularity in South America, Western Europe and behind the Iron Curtain than he did in the United States. Ten years ago he was found dead in an East German lake under mysterious circumstances. Officially it was an accident, but many believed he was murdered by the Stasi, the East German secret police. Using Stasi documents about Reed, the investigation reveals Reed's initial enchantment and willingness to spy for the East Germans and then his growing dissatisfaction with the communist government. But it also shows increasing personal problems and the real cause for his death: suicide.
