Description

This three part series investigated a major psychic hotline and its techniques to attract and keep people hooked on its services. WLKY discovered a national recruiter for the psychic readers network in the area and was able to get an employee hired as a psychic operator. She had no experience and no references, but was put to work after giving the recruiter an eleven minute test telephone reading. Once on the job she was given a list of emergency telephone number for callers in distress. WLKY found that twenty percent of the numbers were either disconnected or not available to the area. The investigation also revealed that people who stopped calling the psychic hotline were bombarded with mailings. (November 12 - 14, 1996)
