For two-and-a-half years, the Chicago SUn-Times exposed how U.S. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski, the then-powerful chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, improperly took hundreds of thousands of dollars from his congressional allowances and campaign funds. The series helped lead to Rostenkowski's indictment in May 1994 and his subsequent defeat in November 1994. On April 9, 1996, Rostenkowski plead guilty to corruption charges. (April 10, 1996)
